Sobolo (Iced Hibiscus Tea)

Sobolo has been the craze in Ghana for the past couple of years and I remember the first time I drank it, it was very spicy so I stayed away from it for a number of years. Then recently I was looking for variety of teas on the internet because I was tired of drinking my old boring black tea. Then I found out about Hibiscus flowers and I was intrigued to find out that Sobolo came from Hibiscus flowers. So I put on my apron and started experimenting.

You can create your own taste by adding several ingredients to the basic recipe, hibiscus flowers and water. Cinnamon, ginger, cloves, lemon, orange, lime, lemon grass, cardamom, mint with give your sobolo a zesty unique taste. You can combine the ingredients to see what you like.

You can cold brew it, steep it in hot water or boil it, but either ways, it always comes out delicious.

This recipe demands boiling the flowers to bring out the flavor embedded in it.

Enjoy this delicious cup of sobolo.

1/4 cup dried hibiscus flowers

1 Lemon

2 Lime

1 Orange

1/2 Ginger

2 slices Pineapple

Sugar

2 cups Water

*** Store up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator

*** Don’t boil it for too long else you will lose all the nutrients present in the flowers.
